North of 60 Project

Dear St. Gabriel Community,

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 26th, 2020. In the spirit of Alms Giving, the families, students and staff of St. Gabriel School are asked to help support the North of 60 Project this Lenten Season.  The North of 60 is an organization that is dedicated to helping Canada’s most northern communities by sending non perishable food items by large sea containers.

Items collected by students at St. Gabriel will directly help and support the families living in the community of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut.  Thank you so much for helping our school community support the families of Rankin Inlet by collecting the following items:

Kindergarten and grade 1:

454g bags of spaghetti, rotini, small bow tie and elbow macaroni

Grades 2-6:

900g bags of spaghetti, rotini, small bow tie and elbow macaroni

↠ Expiry dates must be 2021 or later on each package to ensure freshness.↞

Our school goal is to collect ONE HUNDRED 454g bags and THREE HUNDRED 900g bags of pasta!

We believe in  the importance of educating all our students about Canada’s Indigenous peoples and providing opportunities for helping others in need.

Thank you for your continued support helping St. Gabriel to gather and share!

God Bless!

Registration for junior kindergarten takes place during the week of January 13-17 at St Gabriel Catholic School.  Please call the school at 613-271-6181 to make an appointment to register, that way we will have time to answer any questions you may have.  Registration will also be accepted anytime during the regular school year if you happen to miss the January registration period.

Junior Kindergarten students are those children who will be four years old by December 31, 2020.

To register your child, please bring the following:

  • Your child’s birth certificate or other government document to show proof of age (health cards are not accepted as proof of age)

  • Your child’s baptismal certificate (if baptised in the Catholic Church)

  • Proof of address - recent utility bill, rental or purchase agreement or bank statement (driver’s license is not accepted)

  • If your child is not a Canadian citizen then we need citizen documentation.

Please pass this information on to neighbours who may have a child that is born in 2016.

Advent Project and Mitten Tree - December 2nd - 11th

posted Dec 4, 2019, 10:48 AM by Cathy O'Brien - OA   [ updated Dec 4, 2019, 10:49 AM ]

The Advent season has arrived and Christmas is just around the corner.  Each of the classes at St Gabriel School will be involved in our Advent project to help those in need.  Each class, from Kindergarten through grade six, will contribute to allow us to prepare a “hamper” for needy families from our adopted school, St Elizabeth.

Each student is being asked to bring in a specific item for the food hamper (your child’s classroom teacher will provide this information).  Additionally, a minimum donation of $2.00 for the family would also be most appreciated. Monies collected will go towards the purchase of a grocery store gift card for each family, so the family can purchase a turkey and fresh fruit and vegetables.

We encourage the students to complete a chore at home to earn their own money, so that they experience the gift of giving.  We will be collecting the hamper items and money from Monday, December 2nd until Wednesday, December 11th.

Advent calls us to share the light with others through our loving deeds.  At St Gabriel we will share our light with others by decorating our Hat and Mitten Tree.  There is a tree in the front foyer and it is our hat and mitten tree. We are looking to cover the tree with new hats, mittens, scarves and gloves.  All donations will be given to children in our partner school St Elizabeth and other schools in our school board where there are children who are in need of warm winter clothing.  Thank you for your ongoing support of our efforts to help others in our community.

Parent Instruction for booking Parent Teacher Interviews

St Gabriel Catholic School

Electronic Sign Up for Parent Teacher Interviews for Thursday November 14th, 2019

4:00-4:50 p.m and 6:00-8:00 p.m.

This year St Gabriel is once again using an on-line system for booking parent teacher interviews using Google forms.

Please go to the school website (, under Announcements on the home page, find Parent Teacher Interviews and click on the link for this document.  Click on the teacher's name and the link will take you to the booking form for that teacher. Be sure to choose the correct link. Out of courtesy to other parents, please only book one time slot per teacher.

Please Note:  the online system will be available from Monday, November 4th at 9:00 am until Monday, November 11th at 3:00 pm.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. O'Brien.

If your child is in grade 4, 5, or 6, your child may have more than one English teacher.  One English teacher might teach your child science and technology, health and physical education, and the arts, and another English teacher might teach your child mathematics, language arts, and religion.  Due to limited spots available, please only book an interview with the English teacher who teaches your child mathematics and language.

If your child is in Kindergarten, only book an interview with your child’s homeroom teacher and Early Childhood Educator.

Please note:  Time slots will fill up fast.  If you are not able to book a time to see your child’s teacher, please call the school or write a note in your child’s agenda to arrange for another time to discuss your child’s progress.

Thank you for your continued support,

Maria Richichi
